For those who are following the emerging catalogue of works, Toccata on “Gloria Patri”, for organ, is finished and is available for purchase, for $8.95. Psalm 23, a commissioned work for Soprano and Mezzo Soprano soloists, and piano premiered February 18th to a very warm reception is available for $9.95. Psalm 23 is also set for soloists and orchestra, and was premiered in this full edition at the annual Spring Concert, March 3, 2013, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Choir and Orchestra, with Marilyn Irons, Soprano soloist, and Natalie McCullough, Alto. The orchestra calls for 1 each flute, oboe, English horn, bassoon, timpani, percussion, strings, and organ. The piece is nine minutes in length, and conductors score and parts are available ($79.95).
The Toccata on “Old Hundredth” ($12.95) and Genesis 1:31 ($9.95) premiered at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas in April, 2012, with the great Annette Albrecht at the organ.
A recent premier took place at Preston Hollow. Prelude on “Lasst Uns Erfreuen”, for tenor saxophone, bass and organ, ($16.95 with parts) is a robust and joyful setting in a jazz style based on J.S. Bach’s ritornello model for many of his preludes. The tenor sax part calls for a virtuoso player; but the congregation is rewarded with a very unusual yet liturgical experience. Recordings of these live performances may be heard on the “compositions” page.
Premiered on Christmas Eve 2012 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church is Christmas Eve for Chorus, piano, oboe, and percussion. This mystical vision of that miraculous night is a setting of the old Celtic poem by the same title. It may be heard live on the ‘compositions’ page. The full text, mystical and meaningful, is as follows:
The door is on the latch tonight. The heartfire is aglow.
I seem to hear soft passing feet: the Christchild in the snow.
My heart is open wide tonight, for stranger, kith, or kin.
I would not bar a single door where love might enter in.
In May 2014, the new Prelude on “Lobe Den Herren”, for bell choir, timpani, organ, and trumpet, was premiered by the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Ringers, Judy Melson, director, as the Opening Voluntary.
A new piece, Fantasy on “Simple Gifts” is in the works at this time. It is conceived for SATB chorus (divisi), organ, and percussion.
…speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord…
Ephesians 5:19
